Dr. Rachel Wolz is a saxophonist based in Los Angeles, California. She performs regularly in Southern California, most recently performing with the Music Academy of the West and Colburn Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she is the alto saxophonist for the Gold Line Quartet, a Los Angeles group dedicated to excellence, authenticity, and virtuosity in music. The group regularly performs across Los Angeles, with recent performances taking place at Boston Court Pasadena, Our Savior Lutheran Church, and the Los Angeles Natural History Museum.
As an educator, Rachel’s teaching philosophy is guided by a commitment to advocacy, equity, and accessibility. Rachel currently teaches general music with The Orchestra Place, a program which partners with local schools and engaged parents to bring music education to underserved communities. She also maintains a studio of private saxophone students throughout Los Angeles.
Rachel holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance from the University of California, Los Angeles. She received Master’s degrees in Saxophone Performance and Music Theory from the University of Oklahoma. Rachel completed Bachelor’s degrees in Saxophone Performance and Music Composition from Illinois State University, where she was named a Robert G. Bone Scholar, one of the highest university-wide honors awarded to undergraduate students each year. Her principal instructors include Paul Nolen, Jonathan Nichol, and Jan Berry Baker.
